Clients & families
The Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) allocates funds to assist counties and state agencies in meeting all MHSA responsibilities. The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) has awarded funding to regional centers to develop and implement innovative projects. These projects run from July 1, 2023, through June 30, 2026, and focus on prevention, early intervention, and treatment for children and adults with mental health diagnoses. They are designed to support families.
MHSA Project
The Transition Age Youth Mental Health Program (TAYMHP) is conducted by the National Alliance on Mental Health (NAMI) San Diego in partnership with the San Diego Regional Center in Imperial County. The Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) funds the project in partnership with the Department of Developmental Services.
The program’s team will help identify if someone is struggling with mental health or has concerns. They will connect them to their needed services and provide strategies and support. This can include attending IEP meetings with them to offer additional assistance.
Who is Eligible to Participate in the TAYMHP Project?
- Individuals aged 14 to 22
- Residents of Imperial Valley
- Are served by the San Diego Regional Center
- Have a dual diagnosis or are at risk of developing a mental health condition but not effectively accessing mental health services or treatment
TAYMHP Imperial Valley Project:
The proposed project will offer culturally and linguistically appropriate Peer Behavior Intervention for individuals aged 14-22 in Imperial County. These individuals may have a dual diagnosis, be at risk of developing a mental health condition, and are either served by the San Diego Regional Center or not effectively accessing mental health services or treatment.
NAMI San Diego & Imperial Counties is partnering with the San Diego Regional Center to deliver these essential services. The bilingual team includes a Program Manager, Peer Behavior Interventionists, and a Master’s-level Clinician.
Project Outcomes:
The project will provide support to at least 50 individuals per year and ensure that:
• 100% of them have their risk assessment and related history reviewed during triage team meetings to evaluate behaviors, access to Mental Health, appropriate referrals for services, and/or evaluation of their performance in school and home
• 80% of TAY identified as needing Mental Health services will be referred to them.
• 90% attendance by a team member to school IEP meetings and will evaluate transition, employment, and educational goals for effectiveness.
Additionally, our program will:
