Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Efforts

At SDRC, our DEIA team is committed to ensuring that all individuals and families—regardless of language, culture, or background—can access the services and supports they need. We focus on creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcomed, respected, and supported.

The Mission

To advance equity, diversity, and inclusion across SDRC by increasing access to services for the people we serve, aligning our work with the organization’s mission, collaborating with leadership, and ensuring compliance with state requirements.

Key Initiatives

We manage the Language Access and Cultural Competency (LACC) Plan, improving interpretation and translation workflows for threshold languages such as Spanish, Tagalog, Arabic, Farsi, Simplified Mandarin, and Vietnamese. All materials are translated clearly and written in plain language.

We organize listening sessions, resource fairs, and support groups—such as our African American Support Group and Middle Eastern Support Group—to connect with diverse communities.

We provide resources and communication access for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and address service gaps in Tribal communities.

Through weekly or biweekly “Community LINK” sessions, staff learn about services and resources available to families.

We assist families facing homelessness or immigration challenges through outreach at shelters and the Mexican consulate, offering screenings, referrals, and resource connections.

We coordinate annual Purchase of Services (POS) meetings to share updates, gather feedback, and develop strategies to reduce disparities.

We collaborate with community organizations to expand awareness of SDRC services and strengthen trust with underserved communities.
